Brief History: The Inn is over five hundred years old, and over the years has had many interesting visitors
including Charles Dickens. There is even a room named after him.
Team Investigation: The Inn is set in the idyllic village of Bowes with cobbled streets and a wonderful atmosphere
of times gone by. The Inside of the Inn reflects this with a roaring coal fire and large wooden beams on the ceilings. The
team were given a lovely warm welcome by the landlord Tony and his wife Linda. To begin with temperature readings were taken
of each room including the cellar also EMF and ELF readings were taken. These read electrical and magnetic energy. Cameras
were set up in the bar area after members of the public had left. Soon after the investigation began in what is known as 'Emma's
Room. Both video cameras that had been placed there switched off, then came back on without being touched. This phenomenon
can be caused by high magnetic fields that some experts believe is caused by rock. the Inn is built on a foundation of rock.
So this could account for some of the strange readings the ELF metre was picking up. The team then split into groups, Denise
and Chris were in the 'Pennine' room conducting a séance and both heard footsteps on the landing stopping outside the door.
Then the door handle moved, when Chris opened the door no one was there. Sharon and Kristian were at this time in the 'Dickens'
room, We heard loud bangs like somebody falling over and footsteps coming from the store room upstairs. The noises and orbs
were captured on film when questions were being asked. Later Rachel and Deb went back to Emma's room and Rachel 'felt' something
touch her feet, which was strange as earlier in Emma’s room she felt someone touch her trouser pocket. Looking at video
footage an orb is seen right next to the same pocket! Just after 01:00am a séance was conducted in the bar dinning area. Sharon
asked if a William or Bill was standing at the bar. taps were then heard and the whole team felt a chill as the temp began
to drop rapidly. Various banging’s and knocks were heard during the séance. The only light source was from Deb's video
camera which went off completely, followed by Kristian’s! Moments later they both came back on which we all found very
interesting. Looking back at the footage an orb was seen near the fireplace in front of a rocking chair also an orb went up
and down the wall near the door. Chris spoke the names of Roger and Martha and later found out a couple with that name had
ran the Inn at some time in the 1800s. Some tragedy had occurred and even a poem was written about them. Around 3am a séance
was done in the cellar where it is reported to have had witchcraft practised there at some time in the past. Nothing was filmed
but some members of the team heard a faint whistle. In the restaurant nothing was picked up but again two cameras with full
battery power switched off. During this time video cameras had been left in the bar area and when played back 'tapping' can
clearly be heard. Going to the 'Pennine' room the ELF metre went to danger above a certain bed. Move it away and the reading
went back to normal. The metre picked nothing up in any other room. Two members were passing the restaurant and heard laughing,
thinking it was others of the team they looked into the restaurant but no one was there.
Conclusion:
This was a wonderful venue and the whole team would recommend it. Although
we didn't catch a ghost on film we did have lots of phenomenon happen that evening. The atmosphere was warm and friendly,
so in conclusion we feel the ghost's that haunt the Ancient Unicorn are not of the 'bad' variety.
