Brief History: The Inn has been a part of Fatfield life for many years. It dates to the early 19th century, and
is situated in a picturesque setting near the bank of the River Wear. Regulars over the years have included miners and ferryboat
men, maybe their presence still lingers?
Reports of: One
story, its said that a barmaid going down the cellar one evening felt someone push her from behind. When she turned to see
who it was no one was there.
Team Investigation: The team arrived about midnight after everyone
had left, placing cameras in the bar area and sensors. Photos were taken in the dark using digital cameras, an orb was seen
on several pictures. One camera was set up in the gents toilets, after one of the team went in to take a picture, something
strange was caught on camera, a voice was heard saying "hey" and then the camera turned, which we discovered when
looking over the footage at the end of the night. In the dining area a séance was conducted with all of the team, nothing
came of this apart from some unexplained noises and voices from the other bar, with not much happening we decided to move
into the cellar, as there was too much noise from the coolers we did not bother with a séance, any noise we heard could
have been the coolers so we gave up on the cellar and went for a coffee. After awhile some of us went into the bar to set
a camera recording and also set up the motion sensors, when this was done we went into the kitchen to see if we could pick
up any activity there, once again not much was happening, it was time for another coffee. About 3am the group went into the
bar to conduct a séance, Sharon Lamb kept getting the initial D and the name Moss, but she could not quite figure out
what the surname really was, another member of the group then asked "Grandad is that you", and a loud bang was heard.
The name she was getting was Danny Moscrop, who was the Grandfather of two of the team and he used to work in the bar many
years ago, and Sharon was not told any of this information prior to the investigation. Later in the evening four of the group
went back into the bar to conduct another séance as one of them kept getting the name Joe Thompson, as the séance
started the table we were sitting around started to move in a strange way, as questions were asked the table tipped more and
more, the spirit we had contacted was that of a young boy named Joe Thompson who apparently drowned in the river outside of
the Biddick at the age of four.
When
looking back at the recording in the bar, we heard a man whistling an old fashioned tune and what sounded like a bottle being
opened behind the bar, (To see video footage click play
video Below) once again there was nobody in the bar while the camera was recording. When we played
the footage to family members, they all said it was Tom Moscrop, who used to be the Landlord of the Biddick in the late seventies
early eighties, they said he was always whistling while working behind the bar.
Conclusion: All in all it was a good night, we had picked up a lot of activity and movement
in the bar, we got several orbs in different areas of the pub and heard voices in the bar and the gents toilets. The whole
group agreed that the Biddick Inn has lots of paranormal activity, but none of the spirits that are in the pub mean any harm
to those who live and work in the bar. The Biddick is a charming little pub, and a place we would love to visit again.
